Main Points of Jan Lokpal Bill 2011


Jan Lokpal Bill is an anti corruption draft proposed by members of civil society like Anna Hazare,Kiran Bedi,Arvind Kejrival for paving the way for Lokpal,an independent body that will handle all the Corruption cases independently and can prosecute Politicians,Bureaucrats and Employees of Central and State Governments

Here are some of the Salient Features of Jan Lokpal bill 2011:

  • An Institution called Lokpal will be established at the center and an institution called Lokayuktya  will be established at the States
  • Lokpal is an independent body like Supreme Court and Election Commission and government will have no power to influence their working
  • Corruption Cases will be solved at the earliest.The maximum time period for the trial will be one year so that corrupt Politicians,judges and Bureaucrats will be sent to the jail at the earliest.
  • Another Important feature of Lokpal bill is recovery.If a person was found guilty then recovery of loss will be made from the concerned person during the time of conviction
  • If any work of any citizen is not done in prescribed time in any government office, Lokpal will impose financial penalty on guilty officers, which will be given as compensation to the complainant.
  • It will be the duty of the Lokpal to provide protection to those who are being victimized for raising their voice against corruption.
